17-43: Tax Return Filing Extension due to Hurricanes and Reminder of Transcript Requirements

10/13/2017

The IRS has extended the deadline for tax return filing for individuals and businesses impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma to January 31, 2018. The eligible counties can be found on the IRS website or at the end of the announcement.

PennyMac is aligning with the IRS extension of tax return filing for all loans secured by properties or have business located in the impacted areas.

For all transactions that require tax returns or transcripts and are located in one of the areas identified by the IRS as eligible for the extension, PennyMac will require the following:

  • For all loans closed on or after January 31, 2018, 2016 tax returns will be required, along with evidence an extension was filed and proof of no record found for 2016 transcripts.
  • For all loans closed on or after March 15, 2018, 2016 tax returns and tax transcripts will be required.
  • Evidence the property or borrower’s business is located in the impacted area will be required.

As a reminder, for all other transactions requiring tax returns or transcripts, 2016 tax returns and transcripts are required for loans closed on or after December 15, 2017.
